Open positions for MSc, PhD and postdoctoral students
Flow Physics Laboratory at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering:
The flow physics lab is looking for motivated MSc, PhD and Postdoctoral candidates. Our research focuses on theoretical and computational investigations of flow physics, with specific emphasis on instability and transition to turbulence. The common thread guiding our research is using a minimal number of elements to describe physical phenomena. Therefore, canonical settings, where effects of various parameters can be isolated, are often analyzed. Investigations of flow physics provide us with guidelines for controlling the flow and avoiding undesirable phenomena (e.g. stall, noise and vibrations), leading to safer, quieter and more efficient aerial vehicles with lower drag and fuel consumption.
Requirements:
Candidates should have strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics and mathematics. The ideal candidate will have self-learning abilities and an avid interest in understanding physical phenomena. High-level computer skills and experience with HPC platforms are desirable.
Candidates are expected to submit a brief cover letter, along with their CV at: mkarp@technion.ac.il

Combustion and Diagnostics Group at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering:
Open positions for MSc and PhD students interested in working on renewable fuels.
The major remaining technological challenges for a carbon free and sustainable future are storage and transport of renewable energies. Chemical storage of energy in the form of hydrogen and ammonia is one promising solution for both. In the combustion and diagnostic lab, we look at chemical processes involving these fuels, and how they can be improved. Prospective projects could investigate green ammonia production.
Candidates are expected to submit a brief cover letter, along with their CV at: joseph.lef@technion.ac.il

Open positions for motivated students interested in working on hybrid rocket propellants. Rockets work by combustion which requires a fuel and an oxidizer. Solid and liquid rockets utilize fuel and oxidizer in the same phase (solid and liquid respectively). Hybrid rockets- the focus of our research- use fuels in the solid & oxidizers in the liquid phase. Hybrids are safe, cheap, allow thrust control and have a simpler design. However, without ignition of the propellant, our rocket’s not going
anywhere, and that’s a challenge for hybrids. Hybrid ignition is plagued with problems such as delayed ignition and heavier motor weight to accommodate separate igniter systems. Our research therefore focuses on utilizing an energetic but safe propellant combinations that reacts exothermically and ignites rapidly, thereby potentially overcoming ignition problems in hybrids.
Candidates are expected to submit a brief cover letter, along with their CV at: joseph.lef@technion.ac.il
